Who Are We - Our Work and Lives

Who is Sharon?

As well as being High Hopes’ co-owner and chef, Sharon is a luthier (violin and stringed instrument carver). At present she serves on the board of the fascinating and internationally booming Quartet of Peace, having participated in the carving of these four beautiful instruments dedicated to South Africa’s four Nobel Peace Laureates.

Before moving to Greyton, Sharon, an established goldsmith of 25 years, after training at Natal Technikon, co-established Scarab Jewellery Studio, still thriving in Cape Town today. She is no longer in the business, as she is committed to violin-making and instrument repair, compost-making and running High Hopes Guest House. Sharon’s other interests are singing, worm farming, ceramics, walking, fishing and vegetable gardening.

Who is Angela?

Ange has trained and worked in the health field for twenty-five years. Understanding and facilitating balance and well-being, relating to oneself and others as omni-dimensional - as physical, emotional, mental and spiritual beings - is the dynamic within her work.

Ange has developed High Hopes Retreats and is the co-creator of Sleep Retreats at High Hopes. As well as managing retreats for each individual, Ange runs her private complementary health practice on site here at High Hopes. Her work was recently featured on SABC’s Free Spirit programme. She works with you as an individual to understand your blockages and challenges in the context of your being a contradictory and divine being.

Ange holds two postgraduate degrees, in Psychology and in English Literature and Music, from Rhodes University. She also holds certificates in Applied Kinesiology, Chi Massage, Psychoneuroimmunology, Attunement and Reiki. A qualified Reiki Master (teacher), Angela teaches on request at High Hopes. She is committed to teaching and learning, and to all aspects of transformation work. For nine years Angela directed an organisation working with refugees, in partnership with United Nations. Her other loves are animals, gardening, walking, music and poetry. She organises classical and jazz concerts at High Hopes, plays some cello and piano, and is mad about and currently schooling her two young horses while learning about natural horsemanship.

Who is Hannah?

Hannah is offering babysitting services for people staying at High Hopes or anywhere in Greyton - email

Hannah, Ange's daughter, lives at High Hopes too, together with beloved dogs, cats and goats. WE DO HAVE ANIMALS! Her love of horse-riding, bike-riding, piano playing, reading, watching good movies and hanging out with her friends and family, make High Hopes the perfect home for her. She loves that donkeys, cows and horses still wander the streets of Greyton, stopping to munch acorns off the sidewalks or plodding down to the communal grazing lands all along the Gobos River! (By the way, there is a delightful cycle path all along the river and into a forest on the other side of the bridge on the road out to Riviersonderend. It even has jumps in it!)

There are all sorts of exciting things for children and teenagers to enjoy while visiting Greyton, like the lemon curd pancakes or lemon ice-cream at the Saturday morning market, the berry smoothies at the Oak&Vigne Cafe, Rupert’s chocolate brownies at Pecadillos Bistro (order when you arrive, in case they sell out!), not to mention Liezel’s bookshop, in Via’s Deli, where if you don’t stop for the chocolate crumpet stack you need your head read. Hannah also enjoys a bit of tennis at the Greyton courts. She ‘manages’ her four goats at High Hopes – Betsy, Snowflake, Smudge and Hattie – and feeds them every evening. There is a wonderful selection of children's books, games and puzzles which she’ll lend you when you visit High Hopes, and mountain bikes are available for hire too.

Making your stay as comfortable, enjoyable and as memorable as we can, are our priority and our pleasure. Our home is your home while you are here and you are very welcome.
